~ Satellite Maps: Delorme's ability to download satellite maps makes all the difference. ~ Accuracy: I waypointed the same locations on both units and the Delorme was more accurate on the display and reaching the locations. Delorme has buttons which are more user friendly using gloves. Never timed it, just no how often I had to replace batteries in both units.Ĭontrols: Oregon - touch screen, my assumption it would be difficult to use with gloves that's why I bought the Colorado. ~ Battery life: Garmin seemed to last a little longer. ~ Topo Maps: Both equal with the same descriptions Once an area was set both acquired the signal at the same rate. ~ Acquiring a signal: The Garmin was twice as fast in new areas. Different menus but once you've understood them the ease of usage is the same. I owned the Garmin Colorado 400T and the Delorme P40. Again mine is a year or year and a half old so some of this could have been fixed by now.
I they have some really good ideas for GPS features, but my opinion is that they are at least 1 generation from having them worked out.
It requires you to zoom in too much for the detail to appear that you cannot see a big enough area to really use this detail. I use these additional map packets on my laptop but I've found that they are not very useful on the handheld unit. They are as nice as others say but the process to down load them is far more difficult and time consuming that it should be. I subscribe to the feature all allows detailed maps to be down loaded. It came with many ways to charge the battery but only the wall charger works to charge it. It is always dead when I get it out after storing it for any time. The electric compass doesn't work right in mine. I've had one for about a year and have not been very happy with it.
